Nike’s latest move involves incorporating the safety of soft satins into more of its classic
Dunk colourways due to low leather supplies. This University of Nevada, Las Vegas edition was part of the ‘80s “Be True To Your School” pack, and this Dunk Low iteration was released in ‘85/86. Unlike the reverse or Twist edition, not much has changed in terms of the two-tone color blocking, but the construction is simply satin, making them less susceptible to creasing.
Satin, however, is more vulnerable to dirt. The Dunk is currently positioned by the industry as a lifestyle option, prompting
Nike to swap out the upper material because they know it would certainly get chewed up if they were to be skated in. Despite being great for casual wear, satin may not withstand the test of time for active use. Sneakerheads have yet to upload videos of someone actually using the
Air Jordan 1 High “Satin Royal” for sports, since they dropped in 2017.
