The Air Jordan 8 is the model with legendary comfort and iconic style. The Jordan VIII debuted on the NBA floor in the 1992-93 season and was the model worn by Michael Jordan in his third consecutive championship with the Chicago Bulls. Technically, the Air Jordan 8 has an encapsulated Air-Sole unit in the heel and a rubber outsole for durability and grip.
It is important to know that this pair of Jordan 8 sneakers, which has no resemblance with the other versions and which celebrates this year its 23 years, was very close to being the last pair worn by Michael Jordan, also nicknamed "His Airness" (which can be awkwardly translated as "His Majesty of the air"). A nickname perfectly adapted to the profile and the so aerial game of this young basketball player.
Mike, His Airness, Michael Jordan, so many names for a living myth who was born in New York in the United States, on February 17th 1963, more precisely in Brooklyn. He studied at Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington where he discovered the joys of sports by playing baseball, American football and of course basketball. His father later encouraged him to pursue a career in sports.
But let's get back to the Air Jordan 8s, which for many people are not up to the level of the famous vintages such as the Jordan 1, AJ4, AJ6 or AJ11. However, this version should not be underestimated. On the contrary, it should be seen as one of the most iconic sneakers in the rich history of basketball.
Following the Dream Team episode of '92, Michael Jordan and his entire team of Hall of Famers literally catapulted the world of basketball into an immeasurable triumph. Slam dunks, alley-oops, and so many other basketball skills moved from the turf to the floor, turning a whole generation away from the football stadium.
The enthusiasm is so great that as soon as the next NBA season begins, the public, already hooked on rap and streetwear, will not miss a crumb of the exploits of the Chicago Bulls player, the undeniable young basketball prodigy of the moment. And so, as is often the case with the Jordan Brand, sporting prowess creates the legendary history of a model.
Jordan 8 Three original versions
It should be noted that the Jordan 8 will only be produced in three original editions. A very small number compared to previous launches such as the Jordan 7 for example. However, each of these three pairs is considered a "classic" by collectors.
Interestingly, the True Red (Bugs Bunny as they are known), will support the "Aqua" shoes worn by Mike throughout the Salt Lake City All-Star Game as well as the black and red Playoffs worn during the unforgettable finals.
Some of the most notable Jordan 8 models
Jordan Brand has not said its last word and will immediately remedy this shortcoming by releasing a dozen innovative iterations. Among these novelties, the Three Times a Charm', which celebrates the first ever threepeat ("three + repeat") with colours that echo those of the jerseys of the teams that lost in the finals (Magic Johnson's Los Angeles Lakers in 1991, Clyde Drexler's Portland Trailblazers in 1992 and the Suns), is noteworthy.
In collaboration with the famous Jumpman brand in 2013, Drake was very recently privileged to sign his own sneaker. Champagne Papi also took the opportunity to dress his model in his trademark OVO colours, the Jordan 8 OVO.
It appears that the most expensive pairs of AJ 8 sneakers on the market are undoubtedly the retro DB "Doernbecher" for which you will definitely spend a price tag of no less than three zeros! Distributed in small numbers, it is important to know that these atypical trainers have come straight out of the galloping imagination of the children of the Doernbecher hospital.
A small number, but no more difficult to find. One of the most unobtainable pairs of sneakers in the Jordan collection are undoubtedly the Boston PE 8s, which were made exclusively for Ray Allen (a renowned sneaker addict) when he was training with the Celtics.
What a feat! No less than 23 years after their launch, the Air Jordan 8s still hold a warm place in the hearts of Js aficionados.
And, even if they are now absent from the playgrounds, they can still be seen regularly on the feet of rappers such as Kanye West, Jay Z, Fat Joe, or Nelly, but they can also be worn by all the thirty-somethings who keep in their hearts a great nostalgia for the NBA of the 90's and Mike's exploits.
