Air Jordan 21
For the creation of the Air Jordan 21, the Jumpman brand called on the services of designer D'Wayne Edwards. The Air Jordan XXI had a rather simple design compared to previous Air Jordan models.
Origin of the Air Jordan 21
Michael Jordan is known as the number one basketball player of all time. It was during the 84's that the American player joined the National Basketball Association, and since then, he has created his own brand, the "Jordan Brand", which sells various sports equipment, and of course the trainers: the emblematic "Air Jordan" that the player will wear throughout his NBA career. Let's discover the history of the Air Jordan, from its beginnings to the present day!
The basketball player Michael Jordan did not always wear Nike trainers to play. This somewhat surprising title states that the young Michael Jordan, during his entire NCAA career, wore Converse! At the time, Converse was a well-established brand in the US trainer market. As soon as he joined the NBA, the basketball player also approached Adidas, which did not want to approve him. However, throughout his NBA career, he has always been faithful to his favourite trainer, the mythical "Air Jordan".
Air Jordan is a collection of trainers promoted by Jordan Brand (a subsidiary of NIKE, Inc.). The Jordan line of sneakers was founded in 1984 exclusively for Michael Jordan, six-time NBA champion, and was launched in 1985 with the Jordan 1.
Now with its 35th signed and approved version, called the "Jordan 35", the sub-brand is the most widely used line of trainers ever made exclusively for athletes. Notable designers involved in the development of some of the iterations include Bruce Kilgore, Wilson Smith III, Tate Kuerbis, Peter Moore, and Tinker Hatfield.
Originally designed for professional basketball players, Jordan's, especially the first 14 versions, quickly found their way into everyday life outside of the sporting world. It was Jordan Brand who revisited the very first Bball trainer in the collection in 1994, taking advantage of Jordan's first retirement from the NBA.
In the years that followed, hundreds of old and new versions or retrospectives poured in, indiscriminately as individual releases or as part of series such as the Defining Moments Pack, Countdown Pack and collections such as the Bin 23.
Reinterpretations of the Jordan 3, Jordan 4, and Jordan 6 often cause controversy depending on whether or not they feature the "NIKE" and "NIKE AIR" trademarks like their original pairs or the "JORDAN" and Jumpman logos.
However, the line does exist, and it has been a major contributor to the growth of its subsidiary, helping it to acquire its first ever billion dollar revenue quarter in the second quarter of fiscal year 2020. Of note, the brand's best-selling pair of all time is the Jordan 11 "Bred" 2019 edition.
For the past 36 years, the Air Jordan collection has surrounded itself with high-profile, high-profile partners such as UNDEFEATED and Supreme, to name just two.
Over the past few years, the brand has redoubled its efforts and attention to detail when it comes to collaborations. By taking care to join forces with the best, such as Virgil Abloh's OFF-WHITE, Drake's OVO, Travis Scott, UNION LA and Don C, it has been able to co-create successful releases.
Various athletes such as Russell Westbrook, Ray Allen, Mike Bibby and Carmelo Anthony were offered special "Friends & Family and Player Exclusive (PE)" pairs, which enhanced the legendary Air Jordan.
History of the Air Jordan 21 (XX1)
For the creation of the Air Jordan 21, the Jumpman brand hired the services of designer D'Wayne Edwards. The Air Jordan XXI had a rather simple design compared to the previous Air Jordan models. However, the Air Jordan XXI was equipped with a lot of high-tech materials to ensure more comfort. Sorry for the fans, but we may not see Michael Jordan in the NBA anymore. Indeed, the Air Jordan XXI was of course better valued as the DNA of a champion.
Nothing very innovative about the Air Jordan 21, inspired by a Bentley Continental GT Coupe (another car!). It is said that the front of the Air Jordan XXI trainer represents the Bentley's grille.
Design and technology of the Air Jordan 21
The Jordan 21 features an upper made from a combination of premium Italian suede and premium full-grain leather. Built-in breathability features in the forefoot are combined with an innovative, specially engineered textile for added support and durability.
The contoured heel counter design offers extended ankle support. The innovative foam padded collar completes the seamless construction of the shoe for maximum comfort.
The Jordan 21's breathable mesh tongue helps reduce heat, while the adjustable tongue cover lifts up to reveal the breathable technology or folds down for a more stylish design.
The Jordan 21's fully lined phylon midsole offers a more restrained stance. The evolution of the I.P.S. (Independent Podular Suspension) technology now consists of an interchangeable cushioning technology with a zoom pillar in the heel area that can be converted. The all-carbon fiber upper plate gives the Jordan 21 trainer support in the midfoot and arch area.
Innovative I.P.S. technology is inserted into the outsole with enhanced herringbone lugs, giving the Jordan 21 better traction. The innovative pattern on the outsole provides multi-directional traction.
The Air Jordan XXI trainer was originally released in four different colorways for $175.00 and this innovative version embodies four elements: the legend, the man, the style...Michael Jordan.
